Since popular Nigerian musician Olamide released his hit song Science Student, several people have criticised him saying the song promotes the use of dr*gs and other illicit items. Actress Kemi Lala Akindoju hinted via her Instagram that the way the song promotes the abuse of these bad items is shocking. Pedro Obaseki, a former governorship aspirant in Edo state and cousin to the incumbent governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, shared videos where he said the song should be banned from the airways.

In response to the attacks, Olamide denied that the song promotes dr*gs. Instead he said the song was released to put an end to the dr*g abuse in the society. “Since the release of #ScienceStudent, the support has been massive. As you are all sharing, dancing, singing along to this relatable music of mine, I want you all to take some time to reflect on the subject, say no to dr*g abuse.

Don’t abuse alcohol. stop mixing what you don’t know about. Live responsibly and drink responsibly. Don’t aspire the ‘highness state’ but a state of purpose fulfillment and passion discovery. Together let’s put an end to dr*g abuse and save as many lives as possible. The video will be out soon and I can’t wait for you all to see it. #SayNoToDr*gAbuse #DrinkResponsibly #ScienceStudent”
